🏖️ Heavy Metal Beach Party

Join the annual metal tradition of the Heavy Metal Beach Party in South Beach Miami, which began in 2011 before the first 70k! A full year of planning goes into this event which includes 3 days of metal, beach and fun!

The Clevelander is our host hotel and bar where we can all find each other.  The full history of the beach party can be found here.

Friday January 26 – Rooftop party at the Clevelander Hotel where we get exclusive access to the rooftop bar.  Watch the sun set, meet up with friends, listen to metal and enjoy drink specials all night.

Saturday January 27 – This year makes metal history as we are hosting live metal bands on South Beach – something that may have never happened before!  Four of the five bands feature long-time cruisers.  The event is designed to give our metal family the opportunity to showcase their bands with the 70k metal family. Be sure to come out and show your support!

Sunday January 28 –  Yoga on the beach, the Classic Heavy Metal Beach Party and group photo, plus live band karaoke after dark at the Clevelander!

Monday January 29 – Ride to the port in metal style and comfort on the Heavy Metal Beach Party bus, departing the Clevelander every 30 min.  Don’t miss the boat!

🍻 Hollywood Party

A cruise pre-party and a post-party are organized at the Hollywood Brewery:

This will be held at Hollywood Brewing on the Broadwalk in Hollywood Beach, (loosely) organized by Dulip Mahen Wijesuriya. Hollywood Brewing has a food menu and (obviously) beer. The event will start at 7PM BOAT Time on Saturday the 27th. The time on the event page is a little wacky since it’s in Dulip’s time zone. If you want to get there earlier for a bit and to pre-game, it’s entertaining to hear the music switch over at 7pm from their normal music to full-on metal.

Literally everything is the same as above, except this will be on Friday the 2nd when we return. 7pm BOAT Time. This will give you a little time to sleep it off.

🎙️ Cripper Award Contest

Every year we see announcements of smaller bands which most of us have never heard of before. This was seen as a good reason to start organizing a contest called Cripper Award, which aims to recognize the best unknown band to have performed on the cruise every year.

The name was given based on Cripper’s performance in 2013, since most cruisers hadn’t heard of them before and they played two killer shows. Unfortunately, Cripper is no more since they split up in 2018, but Britta, their former singer, helped organize the award for a few years. Lately, it has been organized by yours truly.

The nominees for the award are selected before the cruise, picking the lesser-known bands using a threshold based on the number of Spotify listeners (the criteria has been changing over the years and will probably continue to do so). After the cruise, a poll takes place and the winner receives a battle vest from the previous winner. This is the list of winners thus far:
